Does anyone have infornation on how to contact Steve Thompson,
puplisher of the Fort Mudge Most Fanzine and
co-auther of Pogo Files for Pogophiles. if so please let me know.
All of the pictures are clickable, click on a picture and you will get a larger image. .
Straightened up the pictures of the Chess set so they show up properly.

I have successfully digitized all of the Pogo Books. That gave me the opportunity ro create a list of all of the characters that appeared in the books. I am losing my eyesight but I believe I am close to 100%.
I never realized that there was quite a difference between the strips and the books, dumb on my part I guess.
Added some more Fort Mudge Most covers, corrected the books covers. fixed some broken links, if you find others please let me know.
Maggie Thompson wrote me with an interesting comment about Chug Chug Curtis the mailman, and I quote "By the way, you note that Chug Chug/Choo Choo Curtis (named for my dad) was introduced Nov 7, 1948 (not yet a mailman, the job he gripes about upon his return, Jan 27, 1949). I'll add that The Real McGee ("the substitute mail man," named for my mom) only appeared Aug 15, 1949.
She later added "I have observed as a Walt Kelly fan since I was around 4 years old that consistency was not a requirement for him from installment to installment. There were a few characters whose names didn't change: Albert Alligator, Howland Owl, Pogo Possum, Churchy La Femme - but one of the bears stayed consistently the same while his name changed. And sometimes there were other bears. Etc.
In later years, Mailman Duck was just Mailman Duck. In early years, he was both Chug Chug Curtis and Choo Choo Curtis - maybe hyphenated, maybe not. The Real McGee (my mom) only appeared once, so there was no confusion there ..." End Quote
I went back and looked at the strips and noticed that the 2 ducks wear different hats. The first one (on Novenber 7) is called Chug Chug Curtis, the 2nd is not identified, just noted he is the mailman. Still confussed, but I'm 83
I have not yet punched Fantagraphics Vol 7, I'm waiting for Vol 8 so I can get the boxed set.
February 3. 2021:
Added more pictures of the characters, most of the pictures are clickable diplaying a larger Picture in a new tab or new window. Still have to do this with the Birds and Bugs. Thinking of breaking out Frogs, Fish and maybe some other characters into seperate lists.
Added a corrected Index of the Characters in Fantagraphics Volumes 3 4 and 5. Still need to do Volume 6. Check out the errors on Vol 5 there is a question on Pogo's Nephews.
Also added more pictues of our fellow Pogophile's Chess Set.
I am working on creating a list of when the characters first appeared in the strips. Does anyone have such information?

The strip first appeared in the New York Star on 10/04/48. The Star folded on 01/28/49 and Pogo then appeared in syndication on 05/16/49.
Bear with me on this, I'm 82 with failing eyesight and working alone but I believe I'm 99% correct.
Of all the books that have been published after Kelly's death, Pogo Files for Pogofilrs by Selby Kelly & Steve Thompson 1992 is by far the best book on Pogo and Kelly.
When Fantagraphics came out with the 3rd Volume, it included an Index which listed all of the characters showing what pages they appeared on. I have gone through Volumes 1 and 2 and created Indexes for each of those Volumes. Check the pages out, if you find where I have misidentifed characters, or missed some, please let me know, my email is at the bottom of this page.
When I started checking the index for Voluume 3 I ran into errors on the list of characters, so I went through all the Dailies and Sundays and created my own index. I then checked it against the index from the book. I believe my index is 99% accurate for the characters. I will have to do the same for Volumes 5 and 6. I have contacted Fantagraphics but have not heard back from them yet. I don't have Volume 7 yet.
